I Feel Just Like Yesterday's Boy

The underrated House of Love is rereleasing their debut album in a loaded 3-disc set on November 26. Crazy that the original album was released way back in 1988. The set is probably worth it for the five different versions of the band's indisputable classic Shine On, but early House of Love is the best House of Love. Can't wait.

Yes

If last Tuesday was Super Tuesday, yesterday certainly could be considered its faithful sidekick.

The stellar new album from Guster called Easy Wonderful was finally released. Guster was quite generous in previewing many of the tunes via downloads, videos, and streams, yet it's great to finally hear it all put together. After one full listen, I'll go out on a limb and say I think it's their best since Lost and Gone Forever - or at a minimum it's their Too Poppiest!

The superdupergroup of Joseph Arthur, Ben Harper, and Dhani Harrison - collectively known as Fistful of Mercy - dropped their new full-length As I Call You Down yesterday as well. The iTunes reviewers are expressing widely divergent views on the album. Check it out for yourself.

Finally, most of John Lennon's catalog has been remastered and rereleased to commemorate what would have been his 70th birthday on October 9. There's never been a better time to fully explore the genius of solo Lennon. Check out the new compilation Power to the People, the questionable "Stripped Down" version of Double Fantasy, and the Signature Box, a new box set featuring the vast majority of his music.

One More Stop To Go

David Mead's new album Almost and Always was released last year via NoiseTrade, but now it's getting a more conventional indie release on 8/25. NPR is previewing the lovely tune Last Train Home...

Dream On

Just announced today is confirmation of the oft rumored reissue of the entire two-album catalog of The Traveling Wilburys, that superest of supergroups featuring George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne. The albums have been out of print for a decade. Rhino is releasing the remastered albums June 11. The release will feature a bonus DVD of videos and a documentary as well as two unreleased songs (!!!!!) and two hard-to-find rarities.

Simply stellar news.

Make Some Noise For Me

News on a retrospective release on March 27 from the Michael Penn email group:

The retrospective is 20 tracks (8 previously unreleased tracks). I
know Macy's Day Parade is on it. There are 3 re-recorded versions of
songs (sorry I'm not sure which ones). A couple instrumentals.
His most recent studio album Mr. Hollywood Jr., 1947 will also see a re-release with an additional disc of extras including performances from KCRW. No date on that.

I Hear the Sound of a Gentle Word

Beach Boys Pet SoundsIf you haven't heard, which is unlikely, this year marks the 40th anniversary of one of the best pop albums ever, Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. To commemorate the occasion, Capitol released Pet Sounds: 40th Anniversary this week. The new release includes versions in mono, stereo, 5.1 surround sound, jingle cats, hi-res stereo, and DVD. One of those might not be true. They've also released the Good Vibrations CD single.

The AV Club spoke briefly with mad genius Brian Wilson about it. Bring the love-vibes, Brian.

It truly is a stunning and legendary album, something everyone should have in their collection. Maybe on its 40th anniversary, I'll finally pick it up (oops).
