My Imaginary Friend

It's not everyday you receive a package from Japan. But today, Roger Joseph Manning's follow-up to the awesome Solid State Warrior (Land of Pure Imagination stateside) arrived. While I'm still listening to it as I write, it is AWESOME so far. Everything I expected, hoped for, and more! If you liked Solid State Warrior, you'll like Catnip Dynamite. That's a TooPoppy Guarantee™. Rock, Pop, Power Pop, Retro - it's all there.

Order from Not Lame today!

Crap, you're handing out guarantees now?!

I got my copy last week and I'll been letting it settle for awhile before I wrote anything. I'm more taken with it than SSW/LOPI, but it's not everything to me yet. Gobs of amazing moments, though, but nothing has completely blown me away.

Couple this album with LEO and you can tell Andy and Roger still aren't far off from each other's tastes.

Yeah, well you know I'm a lot less insightful than you. I'm a sucker for a good hook.

I'd have to say "Catnip Dynamite" is neck-and-neck with Bryan Scary's "Flight of the Knife" right now for album of the year.

It just took me a few listens. Now, it all makes sense. Fantastic album.

Favorites: The Quickening, Tinsel Town, Turnstile at Heaven's Gate

Could live without: Drive Thru Girl

Agreed, what the hell is up with "Drive-Thru Girl"? What a throwaway. Otherwise every other song is spectacular.

I've been obsessed with "Turnstile at Heaven's Gate." I simply cannot stop listening to it.

Well I've had enough time now to devour Roger's latest release and I can assure you that I'mNOT disappointed. I might not be too popular here considering some of the other posts that I've read but I for one have come to accept Roger's sugary sweet and somtimes silly nature (Drive Thru Girl) because I am a real fan of not only Roger Joseph Manning but of "quality" music. I've probably been a fan of his and Jellyfish longer than say some who don't care for his sweet and silly nature but damn he's clever! For example just think Paul McCartney (Beatles anyone?) in one of his quirkier moments(most of his songs on The White Album & post Beatles material) and Jellyfish for that matter and it should come as to no surprise. If I may add, I believe Jellyfish was in large part Roger's brainchild IMO and Jellyfish was well... most of what Roger sounds like today. With that said I think Drive Thru Girl is a pretty good song and probably could've been on Spilt Milk but I guess to each his own. Think about it!
