On their last two albums, the Shins were too anemic, wispy, wistful and -- let's face it -- downright wimpy to hold their own in such company. Yet while there's no evidence of massive ingestions of testosterone on their new album "Wincing the Night Away" -- the title alone will tell you that -- their sound has evolved in an intriguing enough way to overcome their previous shortcomings.
