This Bird Has Flown

Last night my local NPR station (KUNI for those who care, Mark Simmet rocks!) played Low - Nowhere Man off of the THIS BIRD HAS FLOWN: A 40TH ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE TO THE BEATLES' RUBBER SOUL. I like it. I like it more than most Low. I'm hot or cold with them. I know several of the too poppy readers are bigger fans of the Beatles than I. What do you think? Salon.com's Audiofile had this as their daily download the other day.

Really quick. How much do I love public radio. This much:

ELVIS COSTELLO - THE OTHER SIDE OF SUMMER
SON VOLT - BANDAGES & SCAR
THE KING OF FRANCE - SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE
MATT POND PA - SEVERAL AROWS LATER
WOLF PARADE - SAME GHOST EVERY NIGHT
WILCO - HEAVY METAL DRUMMER
CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH - LET THE COOL GODDESS RUST AWAY & THE SKIN OF MY YELLOW COUNTRY TEETH
MY MORNING JACKET - LAY LOW
THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS - STACKED CROOKED
SUPER FURRY ANIMALS - FREQUENCY
GRATEFUL DEAD - BIG RAILROAD BLUES
THE CURE - OUT OF THIS WORLD
BECK - THE LITTLE DRUM MACHINE BOY

There's more. Much more. But this many good songs in one four hour stretch rules. Now I feel guilty. I need to pledge.

A lurker to this board suggests that yes, you do pledge to your public radio station, but also that you pledge your public television station who last night brought BritCom fans an "As Time Goes By" Special and will have a great Narnia special on next week...If Dirty Pop is who I think he is. If not, you should still pledge.

The Fiery Furnaces completed destroyed anything good about Norwegian Wood on this. It is one of the worst covers I've ever heard, particularly from a band that is too often buzzed about.

Haven't heard much else though.

I always worry about anonymous lurkers. For his or her information I do believe my partner pledges to public television but certainly not at the level I would like. Also I need my interests represented.
