I'll Know It When I See It

I was going to post last week about Bleu's new Kickstarter project for his upcoming album Four, but he hit his goal within a day or two and then some! Congrats, Bleu. Still you have some great rewards if you participate in the project prior to the release of the album, including having the opportunity to write a song with Bleu! Go here for all the details.

Bruce at Not Lame posted his thoughts on the need for Kickstarter and more at his new social media project Rock and Roll Tribe. Read it here.

The King of Rebels Hit the Jackpot

Bruce at Not Lame is nothing but a big tease! In his email alert today he recommended the new album from Oranjuly (more on that great album soon) because of its undeniable Jellyfishy qualities. He couldn't leave it at that. He had to throw this into it:

I will have some big news for Jellyfish fans in the next few months. It's a project that will be coming together the rest of the year and will see the light of day on the front half side of 2011!

What is it? Well, that is still under wraps but I will let you know as soon as I am able to share that with you.
Curses to you, Bruce. The last time you teased us so was when Not Lame released the Jellyfish Fan Club box set. What is possibly left to do?!? I'm sure they won't reunite, but dammit with such a tease like this it keeps such a ridiculous dream alive.

Amazon.com pre-orders: CD, DVD

And don't forget he's touring now! Here's your chance to get your peace fingers in the next DVD likely to be released in 2012. Check out the remaining dates here

I Don't Want to Lose You Now

429 Records is quickly making a name for itself by signing 90s rock dinosaurs veterans like BoDeans, Tonic, and now Gin Blossoms. Look, I came of age musically in the late 80s and early 90s so this is stellar news to me. I remember the very first time I heard Hey Jealousy. Man, talk about perfect Too Poppy music.

Now all I need to do is wait until No Chocolate Cake is released on September 28. Learn more and preview the tunes here. Pre-order here. Reminisce here.

I Still Have Faith

The band Live split up last year and even though it was originally meant to be temporary so individual members could do their own thing, it sounds acrimoniously permanent according to Wikipedia. Many of the problems stem from former frontman Ed Kowalczyk, who has always been a bit polarizing because of he constantly walks that fine line between sincerity ("we will all learn to appreciate the beauty of gray") and insufferableness ("can you hear the dolphin's cry"). I'll let you read about it for yourself.

Ed's solo album Alive (get it?) was officially released today and has inspired allmusic.com to declare it "the biggest, boldest music" from Ed since the unquestionable classic Throwing Copper. I gave up on Live a few albums ago and after testing the waters with the video for Grace I'm not sure I'm ready to dive back in.

Any thoughts? Recommended?

Enjoy the stream until the album's release next Tuesday, July 13! Then buy it.

U Hate It

Liz Phair unexpectedly released a new album called Funstyle this weekend on her website, which has already earned a "WTF" and a "batshit weird" rush to judgment from Pitchfork. I haven't had a chance to hear it for myself, but if they think it's batshit weird, it must be pretty out there.

To go from commercially overproduced in 2005 to head-scratching DIY today might be the epitome of an overreaction. Regardless, her self-titled album remains one of my favorite summer albums despite the fact that it pissed off a lot of phans from the early days.

Funstyle is available via download for $5.99.

Will They Hate Me For All The Choices I've Made?

Metric has a new song and video for some new vampire flick. It's called Eclipse (All Yours) and it's a relatively generic representation of their music. Pick up Fantasies for much better tunage.
