people always ask me if I wish I was signed to a major label. this is exactly why I'm happy to be independent. sure, I would love to have more money for advertising and tour support - but in the long run I won't have to worry about owing anybody any money. this type of story always reminds me of the Behind The Music - TLC (why I was watching I have no idea). This is a band that sold MILLIONS of records and had huge hit singles...and ended up in bankruptcy.
Although he writes this with a refreshingly humorous tone, it has no doubt been a painful experience. Reminded me of the book written by Semisonic's drummer. What a shameful grind of an industry.

ReplyDeleteSo You Wanna Be a Rock & Roll Star by Jacob Slichter. It's a great read, but then again I'm a fan and also worked in radio when they hit big.
